Power Steering Issue

I have a JD 950 with power steering. When I turn the wheel to the right everything seems to work perfectly. But when I turn the wheel to the left, the steering seems to go into automatic mode. The wheel continues to turn left on its own. I have to jerk the wheel right in order to stop it from turning all the way to the left.

I am thinking this is some sort of hydraulic issue but unfortunately I don’t have a lot of experience when it come to hydraulics.

You do have a hydraulic problem. I'm not that familier with that system but you are going to have to rebuild the cylinder or hand pump. ....

On the 950, the steering valve is on the left side of the tractor, alongside of the steering cylinder. It sounds like that valve is sticking. If you turn the wheel slightly in both directions without the engine running, you should be able to see the valve moving in and out. When you release the wheel, the valve should go back to a neutral position. If it doesn't, you either have a sticky valve or a broken spring internally. If it sticks, you might free it up with penetrating oil or it might need disassembly to clean up the mechanism. Its a pretty simple valve. Good luck. ....

The power steering on the 650,750,850,950, and 1050 uses the transmission case as the reservoir. The dipstick is between your legs in the shift lever cover. You fill it in the same hole. ....
